Early Figure Skating Academy

About the Program

The Early Figure Skating Academy provides young skaters the opportunity to jumpstart their figure skating by teaching them skating skills in a figure skating environment. Divided into three levels, this program teaches children skating fundamentals including edges, turns, stops, spins and jumps. Instructed entirely by our NCCP certified professional coaches, skaters will receive both group lessons and individual attention during free practice time. Skaters will also be given their own program set to music. Upon completion of the third level of the program, skaters will be able to spin in two different positions, perform at least two single rotation jumps, and be ready to enter the Skate Canada Star Skate Program.

  • Skaters skate two 45 minutes sessions per week.
  • During the second half of the year (January to March) skaters have the opportunity to select a coach to give them their individual lessons during the session. This coach also teaches them their program. (Structure may vary slightly during Spring and Summer)
  • Skaters in Level 2 and 3 are encouraged to add a Star Skate Level session to their schedule.
  • Early Figure Skating Program fees include all instruction.

Entrance Into the Program

Entrance into the program is by audition or coach invitation only. Skaters who are currently enrolled in the Early Figure Skating Academy may stay in the program and will not require an audition.

After Early Figure Skating

The Early Figure Skating Academy is designed to be a bridge between CanSkate and the Skate Canada Star Skate Program. Skaters may choose to complete all levels of the Early Figure Skating Program before transferring to the Star Skate Program or transfer part way.
