Skate Canada Membership Fee
Skate Canada has announced an increase to the Association membership fee. Effective August 1, 2007 the fee will be $30.00 (plus insurance). This increase is fully supported by all the Sections. With an increase to $30.00, Skate Canada will continue to return 50 percent of the membership fee to the Sections thus eliminating the need for Sections to collect the Section Development Contribution. The increase in the membership fee was done on the basis that the Board of Directors will no longer approve any Section Development Contributions. The centralized collection of all the fees will increase efficiency and reduce duplication allowing Sections to focus on other value added activities for Section programming development.
All skaters, whether they are members of the Coquitlam Skating Club or not, must be registered with Skate Canada for the current Skating year. The annual Association membership fee of $30.00 (plus insurance TBA) must be included with payment unless this fee has already been paid through another Skate Canada sanctioned club. Membership year is from September 1 to August 31. This fee is non-refundable.

Full payment of skating fees must be included with all registrations or they will not be processed.

A doctor’s certificate must be included with your written request for a refund. Medical refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Board of Directors. If granted, the refund will be pro-rated from the date of the medical documentation.
Selling and Trading Sessions
Skaters are not permitted to sell or trade sessions. If you miss your regular session for a particular day, you may not skate on another session in lieu of the one you missed without paying a buy-on fee. You may not have another skater or member of your family skate on sessions for days that you are away without paying a buy-on fee.
What Session Fees Include
CanSkate and Early Figure Skating Fees include instruction. On StarSkate and CompetitiveSkate Level Sessions, unless otherwise indicated, the session fee is for ice only and does not include instruction. Skaters receive instruction from professional coaches in private, semi-private or group lessons. All ice fees are paid to the club. All instruction fees are paid directly to the professional coach.
Session Qualifications
Skaters are expected to skate on the sessions for which they are qualified. Depending on numbers, sessions qualifications may change from season to season. Please refer to the current registration brochure for the qualifications required at each level for the applicable season.
Skating Up and Skating Down
Skaters should note that some skaters may be permitted to skate on a session higher than their current test qualification and some may be permitted to skate on a session lower than their current test qualification. Skaters wanting to “skate up" or "skate down” on a session must apply for permission from the CSC Board of Directors. Applications to skate up will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Board and Club Coaches. If permitted, the number of skaters allowed to skate up or down shall be restricted to those within one test level of the stated requirement and be limited by the number of qualified skaters registered on the session. Skaters requesting to skate up must submit a request with their registration to be considered at the monthly Board Meeting preceding the start of the next skating season. Check the Registration Brochure for the exact date and time. Late applications will not be considered. Applicants will be contacted by the Registrar to finalize their registration status. If the Board receives any legitimate complaints regarding any skater permitted to skate up or down, the Board may remove the skater from the session. Decisions of the Board are final and shall apply to the current skating season only.
Registration Limits on Sessions
Registration limits are placed on sessions so that they function well and to ensure the safety of the skaters.
- Sessions with Freeskate, Spin Patches, Skills, Figures, and Stroking are limited to 22 skaters (except for Novice and Up sessions which are limited to 18 skaters)
- Competitive and Free Dance sessions are limited to 16 skaters.
- Dance sessions are limited to 25 skaters.
- Off-Ice sessions are limited to 16 participants.
Volunteer Participation Program
All Coquitlam SC members who register for Early Figure Skating Academy, StarSkate or CompetitiveSkate Level sessions must participate in the Volunteer Participation Program. The expectation is that all families will contribute time to the club for various tasks that might otherwise fall on only a few members or cost the club money to perform. Skating knowledge is not always required and if it is, we will train you. Volunteering in your club is a great opportunity to learn more about figure skating, how your club runs, meet new people in the club, and have a good time while helping out. Just a couple hours of your time can make a difference. Each family is required to sign up for at least two activities during the skating year. If you have any questions about how to fill in the form or how this information will be used, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator. We do request that parents list their occupations. We ask for this information only so that we may have a better idea of what resources are out there that we can draw on. With such a talented club of skaters we must have equally talented parents! Each family must return the volunteer form included with their winter registration package or their skater(s) registrations will not be processed.
Away From Home Skaters
Skaters who declare the Coquitlam Skating Club to be their home club but do not purchase at least one session of ice with the club will be subject to an administration fee of $100.00 (payable at time of registration) in addition to their $14.00 Skate Canada membership fee .
Lottery Book Fundraiser (Winter Season only)
Skaters are required to pay for a Skater’s Lottery Book. This fee is non-refundable. Lottery books (1 per member) will be delivered in early Winter. Sellers keep the money they collect from sales. Please watch the bulletin board for more information. This is an important club fundraiser. This year there are new incentives to sell more tickets and the draws are all for cash prizes.
New CSC Members and Out-Of-Club Skaters
If you are not a member of the Coquitlam SC, your home club’s test chairperson must sign your registration form to verify your test qualifications and Skate Canada membership status. This requirement applies regardless of whether you intend to take tests during the season or not. Out of Club applications without the Test Chairperson’s signature will not be processed and will be returned to you .
If you are are transferring your home club to the CSC, the following is required:
- A copy of your Skate Canada Test Record. If you are unable to obtain one through your club, please call Skate Canada Membership Services Department at 1-888-747-2372. This is also available on-line at www.skatecanada.ca .Go to the Members Only site and you can access your records there.
- A copy of your Birth Certificate. These are kept on file by our Competition Chair for processing competition applications.
- A signature from one of your home club executive on your registration form. This signature is to verify that you are a member in good standing with your previous club.
Registration Priority
Registration priority will be given to Coquitlam SC members whose accounts are in good standing. Skaters who meet but do not exceed the stated qualifications for a session will have registration priority. If the number of those registrations exceeds the limit for the session, then registration priority will be based on test seniority (date of highest test passed). In cases of equivalent test seniority, priority will be based on the dates when applications are received by the Registrar, with the earlier application receiving precedence.
On-Ice Rules
Freeskate Session Rules

Session Buy-On Rates and Rules
From time to time, skaters may choose to skate on a session for which they are not registered. To buy-on to a session, sign your name in the Buy-On Book in the music room and deposit your fee.
- Skaters should check the music book to ensure that there is space on the session before paying the Buy-On fee.
- If the session is full, skaters must wait a full 15 minutes before they may take the spot of an absent skater. The full Buy-On fee still applies.
- Skaters must pay the full buy-on fee for a session even if they do not choose to skate the entire session.
