Session Limits are as Follows:
Competitive (passed Novice Competitive Freeskate and up): 16 skaters
Senior: 18 skaters
Intermediate: 22 skaters
Junior: 26 skaters
Open: 22 skaters
Dance: 25 skaters
Registration Policy:
*Registration priority will be given to Coquitlam Skating Club members who are in good standing. Skaters who meet but do not exceed the stated qualifications for a session will have registration priority. If the number of those registrations exceeds the limit for the session, then registration priority will be based on test seniority (date of highest test passed). In cases of equivalent test seniority, priority will be based on the dates when applications are received by the registrar.
Once the registration deadline is passed, skaters are considered on a first come first serve basis. If sessions are full then the skater must select another session that has room and for which they qualify. If two late registrations are received at the same time, the above criteria* for registration will be followed.
Buy-on Policy:
Skaters must check the music book to make sure that there is room on the session before paying the buy-on fee. If the session is full, skaters must wait a full 15 minutes before they may take the spot of an absent skater. The full buy-on fee still applies. Skaters must pay the full buy-on fee for a session even if they do not choose to skate the entire session. Please see current brochure/bulletin board/buy-on book, for buy-on rates.
Session Qualifications:
Skaters are expected to skate on the session for which they are qualified. Depending on numbers, session qualifications may change from season to season. Please refer to the current registration brochure for the qualifications required at each level for the applicable season.
Skate-up/Skate-down Policy:
Skaters who wish to skate-up or skate-down onto a session for which they do not qualify, must submit a letter to the CSC Board of Directors requesting permission. Skaters must also include the reasons for this request, along with a letter of support from their coach. Applications to skate up will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Board with consultation from the Club coaches. Skaters who are requesting skate-ups must skate a minimum of 50% on sessions for which they actually qualify. A skater; therefore, cannot skate-up on all of his or her sessions: 50% must, therefore, be skating sessions for which the skater qualifies. Skate-up and skate-down requests will be considered at the monthly Board meeting preceding the start of the next skating season. Check the registration brochure for the exact date and time. Late applications will not be considered. Applicants will be contacted by the Registrar to finalize their registration status. If the Board receives any legitimate complaints regarding any skater permitted to skate up or down, the Board may remove the skater from the session. Decisions of the Board are final and shall apply to the current skating season only.
Skate Canada Membership Fees:
All skaters, whether they are members of the CSC or not, must be registered with Skate Canada for the current skating year. The annual fee of $33.00 (which consists of the $32.00 Skate Canada Membership fee + $0.65 Skate Canada Insurance fee + $0.35 club administration fee) must be included with payment unless this fee has already been paid through another Skate Canada sanctioned club. Membership year is from September 1 to August 31. This fee is non-refundable.
Payment of Skating Fees:
Full payment of skating fees must be included with all registrations or they will not be processed. The CSC accepts the following methods of payment for skating fees: personal cheque (made payable to the Coquitlam Skating Club), VISA, Mastercard, and cash (please do not mail cash), money order, and bank drafts. Skaters not paying by VISA or Mastercard may deduct 3% from their program fees.
Payment Schedule:
Depending on the length of the program, families may have the option of paying in installments. Please consult current registration brochure for payment schedules and a list of programs for which this option applies.
Family Discounts:
The Coquitlam Skating Club offers a reduction in skating fees for families registering 3 or more family members. Please consult current registration brochure for details.
Refunds:
The CSC does not offer refunds except in the case of medical circumstances. Skaters must miss a minimum of 5 consecutive, registered skating days to qualify. A doctor’s certificate must be included with the written request for a refund. Medical refunds will be considered on a case by case basis by the CSC Board of Directors. If granted the refund will be pro-rated from the date of the medical documentation.
Selling or Trading Sessions:
Skaters are not permitted to sell or trade sessions. If a skater misses his/her regular session for a particular day, s/he may not skate on another session in lieu of the one s/he missed without a buy-on fee. Skaters may not have another skater skate on sessions for days that s/he is away without paying a buy-on fee.
Away from Home Skaters:
Skaters who declare Coquitlam Skating Club to be their home club, but do not purchase at least one session of ice with the club will be subject to an annual administration fee of $100.00 (payable at the time of registration) in addition to their $33.00 Skate Canada membership fee (which includes a $0.35 club administration fee).
New CSC Members and Out-of-Club Skaters:
Skaters who are not members of the Coquitlam Skating Club, must have their home club’s Test Chairperson sign their registration form to verify their test qualifications and Skate Canada membership status. This requirement applies regardless of whether the skater intends to take tests during the season or not. Out of Club applications without the Test Chairperson’s signature will not be processed and will be returned to the skater.
If a skater is transferring from their home club to the Coquitlam Skating Club, the following is required:
- a copy of the skater’s Skate Canada test Record
- a copy of the skater’s birth certificate
- a signature on the skater’s registration form, from an executive member from the skater’s home club. This signature is to verify that the skater is a member in good standing with his or her previous club.
Freeskate Session Rules:
- Soloists have the right-of-way. Other skaters must avoid undue interference with the soloist, and the soloist must also keep an alert eye open.
- When the jump harness is in use, the skater in it has the harness-right-of-way over the soloist.
- Solo CDs are played according to a set music rotation list. They may be played twice per session, time permitting.
If a skater refuses his or her solo, it will be marked in the music book, and moved to the end of the list and played after the others on the session, including buy-ons.
- Coach requests are limited to two per session, per skater during a lesson and as part of the lesson.
- On occasion and by special arrangements with the Board Executive, certain skaters may, due to special competitions, be permitted to have their music played more frequently and on request. A notice will be posted identifying such skaters, and the dates for which this privilege shall apply.
Dance Session Rules:
- Skaters in a lesson dancing to the music being played have the right-of-way.
- Skaters dancing to the specific music being played have the second priority.
- Freeskating is not permitted on Dance sessions.
- Dance stroking by dance teams is not permitted. Please use designated free dance sessions.
- While we encourage skaters to work together on dances, continuous “shadow skating” (one skater following another in close proximity usually oblivious to skaters and movement around them) is to be avoided.
